Qualities to look for in CEOs and amazing leaders
Be wary of joining companies with toxic leaders
Toxic leaders can create very successful companies (e.g. Elon at Tesla), but often, the folks that work there are miserable. Here are a few things to look out for when you are evaluating leadership, building a leadership team, or even evaluating whether or not a new company will be an enjoyable place to work.
Amazing leaders stand in the front when the business is in trouble, but let their teams shine when times are going very well.
Be wary if you see a leader pointing fingers at others, using terms like “upgrading talent”, or interviewing new leaders behind the backs of current leaders when things are going wrong.
Be wary if you see a leader taking credit for the success of a business, doing interviews with beaming smiles, using “I” instead of “we”, without crediting the team, when the business is humming.
Be wary of working for a leader that never points their fingers at themselves, asks for feedback, or works to improve themselves.
Be wary of working for a leader that spends all their time talking about themselves, without taking the time to ask questions and learn from you.
Be wary of a leader that does not listen.
