Crucible moments and pivots to save your start-up's life
“…that’s the thing about start ups — you’re almost always on the razors edge between total success and failure. You learn to live there” - Marc Randolph (Netflix co-founder)
The same day rideOS (acquired by Gopuff) announced its acquisition, one of our biggest competitors announced bankruptcy.
The difference?
During the depths on the pandemic, we made a hard, fast pivot to serving the on-demand delivery and logistics market instead of serving the self driving market. 50% of the team, including engineers, and recruiters, worked w me to do customer outbound and cold calls 3x a week. Several leaders left the company, telling me they did not sign up to be a part of a delivery company. The path ahead was unclear, and we took it step by step. It was a brutal time.
Hindsight being 20/20, this was the right move. As we found product market fit by building tech to solve a burning need for delivery companies, buyers came knocking on our doors.
Living on the razors edge is exhilarating, a pressure cooker, and the volatility and journey is not for the faint of heart. Growth in leadership and resilience comes from battling through the tough times, day by day.
